Privacy Policy

Last updated: 16 October 2026.

This policy explains what happens to your data when you use randomartwork.com. Questions: contact@randomartwork.com.

What we collect

We do not ask for or collect personal information. There are no accounts, no forms and no uploads. Your favourites, a list of the pieces you have already seen (so they do not repeat) and the fact that you dismissed the cookie notice are saved in your browser's local storage on your own device. We never receive them.

Curated pages and guides

The curated artwork pages and guides are hosted on this site, including their images, and do not contact museum services when you view them. They show advertising (see below). The shuffle on the home page does not show ads.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address and browser type to deliver the site and keep it secure. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Third-party services that supply the art

To show you art, your browser contacts these services directly: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Rijksmuseum (and its image server, iiif.micr.io), SMK in Copenhagen, Wellcome Collection, Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons. Pages also load a script from Google (for advertising), so Google can also see these details. They can see your IP address and browser details, as with any website you visit, and have their own privacy policies.

Advertising and cookies

This site may show advertising provided by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

Where required by law (for example in the UK and European Economic Area) Google shows a consent message before ad cookies or similar technologies are used for personalised ads. If you decline, you may still see ads, but they will not be personalised using cookies. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the privacy settings option that Google's message provides on the site.

You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, or visit aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.eu to opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies. To learn how Google uses data from sites that use its services, see policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask what personal data an organisation holds about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office, ico.org.uk). Because we do not hold personal data ourselves, most requests are best directed to the third parties above.

Children

The site is general-audience and not aimed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
